The Magpies lifted a notch in the second term and some in-accurate kicking by the Panthers saw Monty 19 points up at half time (6.8 to 9.7).
The Panthers have had some great comebacks in their recent games and keeping Montys' lead to under 24 points, kept the game well and truly alive.
At 3/4 time, the Panthers were 29 points down (8.11 to 13.10), but still in the game.
In the final quarter the Eltham boys lifted and were hard at the ball. They outscored Monty, but unfortunately were beaten by the clock and lost by 8 points (14.16-100 to 16.12-108).
High flying Magpies give Panthers a pecking
A large crowd gathered at Central on Saturday to see if the Eltham Panthers (4th on the ladder) could make this their 6th consecutive win and defeat the Montmorency Magpies (second on the ladder).
The Panthers got off to a good start and were ahead on the scoreboard at the first break (4.6 to 1.3).
